Mercy Teams International (June 2006)

Mercy Teams International (MTI) is one of Operation Mobilization's (OM) relief and development missionary arms. OM has more than 4,000 missionaries working in over 100 countries to bring a message of hope through Christ to the peoples of the world. Wherever possible, OM works in partnership with the local church, encouraging and supporting local believers. Where there is no church OM seeks to plany churches.

In every situation OM teams adapt to the local culture and situation, finding the best way to share Jesus. The OM missionaries witness through Christian literature, the creative arts, friendship, Bible studies, videos, cassette tapes, correspondnce courses, relief and development work and more.

In Thailand, MTI is working in a small village known as Mong Tha or the "Elephant Village". It is an isolated and impoverished village whoe inhabitants consist of about 16 indigenous families. There are about 20 other similar villages in this area along the Thai-Burmese border. All are in desperate condition and open to the Gospel.

In 2004 MTI established this base near Elephant Village. The MTI missionaries help to provide food, hygiene and medical supplies, clothing and other necessities to the impovershed residents. MTI Missionaries also privde educational supplies and teachers for a local school that teaches 21 children.

One MTI missionary says that her goal is to "provide physical help as well as spiritual help". There are now 6 families in the Elephand village that follow Christ with others in surrounding villages coming to know Him daily.

Thailand is a Buddhist country, but this area is very open to the Word of God. There is no persecution against Christians making this a ripe area for harvest. Please help us pray for the missionaries of MTI working in the Elephand village to reach the lost.
