Laundry Bags and Bibles: The Ultimate Freshman Survival Kit (April 29, 2009)

Campus Crusade, IBS-STL celebrate partnership resulting in 1 million Bibles distributed to college students

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Colorado Springs, CO (April 29, 2009)— A laundry bag containing several unusual items has been instrumental in doing more than storing dirty clothes—it’s changing lives.

More than 1 million Freshman Survival Kits (FSKs) containing Bibles, books, water bottles, highlighters, and a downloadable music card packaged in a laundry bag have been distributed on campuses since 1996. Campus Crusade for Christ created the Freshman Survival Kits to provide college students with spiritual direction.

IBS-STL partners with Campus Crusade to supply the New International Version Bibles or New Testaments for the kits.

On Thursday, April 23, 2009, Campus Crusade President Steve Douglass presented IBS-STL CEO/President Keith Danby with a plaque celebrating the partnership that has resulted in the million-Bible milestone. Danby thanked Douglass for Campus Crusade’s partnership and presented Douglass with a framed print of Bible covers used in joint distributions.

“It’s a real privilege to celebrate a million Bibles being distributed,” Danby said. “That’s no small achievement. And we know the impact of those Bibles will be multiplied in other lives, as well.”

Douglass stressed the importance of working together: “Jesus prayed that we would all be one, just as He and His Father are one,” he said. “Today’s celebration not only commemorates 1 million Bibles distributed, but more importantly, it shows the power of God’s people in God’s organizations working together to achieve His purposes.”
