STL Missions Focus

Latin America IBS-STL Brazil Aug 2008

Northeastern Brazil is the “Brazilian Window 10/40” in terms
of evangelism and discipleship. The area is 90 percent Catholic.
It is the poorest region in Brazil, where 80 percent of the people
are illiterate.

IBS-STL Brazil is working with Campus Crusade for Christ,
Cook Communication Ministries International, and several
churches on a pilot project in Cruzes, Pernambuco State.
Discipleship is as much needed there as evangelism. New
believers experience opposition from their families and the
community, and many have fallen from their faith.

During the first fiscal quarter, IBS-STL Brazil distributed 5,000
Bibles and more than 21,000 New Testaments in northeastern
Brazil. God’s Word was presented to more than 25,000 people.
More than 80 church leaders were trained and more than 150
volunteers and missionaries mobilized.

One Sunday night, 22-year-old Patrick, an alcoholic, received
Jesus as his Lord and Savior after being witnessed to in the
city square. He received an IBS-STL Bible. Two friends also
accepted Jesus into their lives. Patrick’s mother came and was
surprised to see him reading the Bible in the middle of the
street. She also received Jesus in her life. All are now members
of a church, and Patrick is helping the pastor and hopes to
become one himself someday.

What STL is doing:
Operation Mobilization is the largest single beneficiary of support from the STL Trust. All of the STL business divisions operate as not-for-profit companies and donate to mission organizations seeking to fulfill the Great Commission.
